World Wheelchair B Championships Get Underway in Lohja

The World Wheelchair B Championships are underway in Lohja, Finalnd, with teams competing for the three remaining spots at the World Wheelchair Curling Championships to be held in Richmond, British Columbia next March.

Team England, consisting of Rosemary Lenton (Skip), Stephen McGarry (Vice-Skip), Julian Mattison, Norma McGarry and Jean Guild (Alternate), are competing for one of three spots at the WWhCC 2023. Skip Rosemary Lenton and coach Tony Lenton both have experience at the World Bs, having most recently appeared in 2019, where a 3-4 record saw them miss out on a play-off spot by the narrowest of margins.

Coach Tony remarked that the team were well rested and had “listened intently” to his last minute pep-talk and, despite one of the wheelchairs seemingly making a break for it at Schiphol airport, the team are “full of enthusiasm” and “raring to go”.

With the team’s kit checked yesterday and the practice session taken care of, the team were all fired up for the start of competition today. They get their campaign started against Poland at 10.00 local time.
